How Refrigerators Work

The gas (refrigerant) is compressed in a compressor and turned to cold liquid (by evaporation) which is then sent to different area in the refrigerator to remove heat. The gas used in most of the refrigerators is Freon or any gas similar to it. The gas is known as refrigerant gas. The refrigerant keeps on collecting the heat from inside until the refrigerant evaporates and reaches the coil where the heat is dumped. Then the gas is compressed to liquid and the cycle again starts.

Our technicians have found that many of the freezers 2-8 years old have problems within the sealed system that act like a bad compressor.  We can quickly solve these problems by cleaning the sealed system, thereby saving the freezer. Contact us to make an appointment.

When a refrigerator doesn’t work, a consumer can do four things:

  • Make sure the condenser fan underneath has air flow.
  • Check to see if the compressor is warm and running.
  • Be sure that the evaporator fan motor inside is blowing air.
  • Make sure the condenser coil is clean.
